Obituary

Tommy Wayman Tippen, Jr. son of the late Tommy Wayman Tippen, Sr. and the late Bernice Olivia Todd- Tippen, passed away on January 27, 2023 in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Tommy accepted Jesus as his Savior and Lord at St. John Baptist Church, under the pastorate of Dr. Harold T. Branch. In 1987, he rededicated his life to Christ and was baptized a second time. He immediately began service in Adult #3 Bible School, the Finance Office-Treasurer and Men's Ministry. He later transferred to Small Groups Adult #2, Class 3, where he served as Secretary.

Tommy was ordained as a Deacon under the pastorate of Rev. Wellington Johnson on December 15, 1991. He served faithfully being entrusted with the preparing of the elements for the Lord's Supper.  His health began to fail, but he continued to serve and minister to others.  On November 13, 2022, he was bestowed the honor of Deacon Emeritus under our current pastor Dr. Derrick E. Reaves.

After twenty plus years, St. Matthew 25:21 describes his service:

"His master replied, "Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things.  Come and share your master's happiness".

Tommy graduated from Roy Miller High School and later attended Del Mar College.  He was honorably discharged from the US Army Reserves on June 19, 1957.  His employment includes Litchensteins, Corpus Christi Bank and Trust, Wells Fargo Bank, and Charter Bank.  He retired as a Bank officer from Coastal Community and Teacher's Credit Union in 2010.

Tommy is survived by his wife, Emmalou Dogan-Tippen, a brother,

Carl S. Tippen (Gerald); daughters, Toni A, Tippen-Bowser (Michael), Tracie L. Tippen-Smith (Greg), Son, Elder Bryan K. Dogan (LaNada) Stepdaughter, Dr. Debbie D. Jones; niece, Dr. Lynell M. Wright (Victor) Jasmine, Justin and nephew, Carl A. Tippen, Julia, Stafford, and Griffin. Grandchildren include Rashard L. Montgomery, Isaiah J. Dogan, Sierra J. Dogan, and Jeremiah L. Dogan.  Special cousins, Mary Taliferro, Eddie Phenix, Janice Lott, Debra Brandon, Charla Hutchens, Aquanette LeBlanc, Athanette Taylor, Noel Aguilar and many other friends at St. John Baptist Church.
