Tommie Letha
Rice Larue
Jul 2, 1931 — Jun 7, 2023
Tommie Letha Rice LaRue
Mrs. Tommie LaRue was born on July 2, 1931 in Cuero, Texas. Her father Lonnie Rice and mother Katherine Blackwell Rice preceded her in death. There were 8 children born to this Rice union. Tommie was the only girl. All seven of her brothers preceded her in death. In her early years her parents moved from Cuero to Corpus Christi in search of a better life. In her teen years Mrs. LaRue met and eventually married Cleophus LaRue Sr. They were married for 58 years and to this union four children were born. Her husband and her eldest child, Michael Eugene LaRue, preceded her in death.
Mrs. LaRue was educated in the public schools of Corpus Christi and graduated from Solomon Coles High School. After working for some years in private homes, she went back to school and received a certificate as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). She worked for any number of years at Spohn Hospital and concluded her professional career as a private duty nurse. Early on she gave her life to Christ under the pastoral ministry of the Reverend Henry Clay Dilworth at the Calvary First Baptist Church. She sang in the choir, was a devoted member of Naomi Mission Circle and served as the president of the Nurses Corps of the Calvary First Baptist Church and also in the Western District Association. She was active in the local, district and state work of the American Baptist Convention of Texas.
In later years Mrs. LaRue and her husband moved to the Houston, Texas area to be near their children. Upon her arrival in Houston, she united with the Brentwood Baptist Church under the pastorate of Dr. Joe Samuel Ratliff where she remained a faithful member until her health failed her.
She leaves to mourn her passing, three children, Linda, Arlena, and Cleophus Jr.; two grandchildren, Michael and Coryell; one great-grandson, Emory, and a host of relatives and friends, including one very dear friend, Mrs. Dorothy Pleasant.
The LaRue family would like to thank the employees of Regent Care Center of League City for the exceptional care afforded to our dear mother.
