Obituary

Silas "Si" Bruce of Portland, Texas was called home on July 25, 2018. Silas was born on July 24, 1932 to his parents Willie Bruce and Clista Ford in Texarkana, Arkansas. He attended Booker T. Washington in Texarkana, Arkansas and the University of Southern Illinois at Carbondale and his certified teacher license from UCLA.
He was a Vietnam War Veterans, retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1970 with the rank of Master Sergent. He was a retired professor from Orange Coast Community College in Costa Mesa, California. He was owner and operator of Texarkana Arkansas Golf, Gun, and Archery Recreation Complex.
He was a member of the Corpus Christi Chapter NAACP, VFW, The American Legion Disable Veterans of American, and the Water Environment Federation.
He is preceded in death by his loving mother, Clista Ford, father, Willie Bruce and son Zachary Bruce, two half-sisters and three half-brothers.
Silas is survived by his daughter, Monica Penrose, grandson, Guerin Williams, two granddaughters, Andria Williams and Natalie Penrose, 3 half-brothers and six-half sisters, and many relatives and friends.
Graveside Services will be held on Friday, August 10, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
