Ruthene
Roundtree
Jul 8, 1937 — Sep 1, 2025
Ruthene Roundtree—a loving daughter to her Heavenly Father, a devoted mother, sister, cousin, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother—peacefully entered eternal rest on September 1, 2025. Her steps were divinely ordered by the Lord, who called her home to her promised life where she is now forever with Him.
Ruthene was born on July 8, 1937, in Seguin, Texas, to the late Herbert L. Wilson and Mattie Wilson. She completed her high school education at Ball High School and went on to pursue her passion for healing by completing her nursing education at Del Mar College.
She later relocated to Corpus Christi, Texas, where she would leave an indelible mark on the lives of many. A woman of deep faith and tireless service, Ruthene was a dedicated and lifelong member of Calvary First Baptist Church, serving faithfully for over 50 years under the leadership of the late Dr. H. C. Dilworth, Jr. and current Pastor, Bishop C. E. Richardson, Sr.
Ruthene served her church in numerous roles—as a nurse, an usher, President of the Senior Ushers, a member of the Women's Mission, and among the Minister and Deacon Wives. Her leadership extended beyond the walls of Calvary, as she also held positions in the American Baptist General Convention of Texas and the Western District General Association of Texas, where she served as Secretary and Treasurer in both the Ushers and Nursing Ministries.
Professionally, Ruthene dedicated over 55 years of her life to Christus Spohn Hospital, serving as a compassionate and skilled nurse. Even after retirement, her passion for caregiving continued as she served as a school nurse for Corpus Christi Independent School District.
Ruthene was first united in marriage to Eugene Francis, Sr. From this union, three sons were born: Eugene Francis, Jr., Michael A. Francis, and Charles E. Francis. After Eugene's early passing, Ruthene later married Roosevelt Roundtree. They shared many years of marriage until his passing as well.
A true servant of God, Ruthene embodied humility, compassion, and strength. She served faithfully in all areas of her life and wore many hats with wisdom and grace. Her impact will be felt for generations.
She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Herbert and Mattie Wilson; her sister, Geraldene Williams; her husbands, Eugene Francis, Sr. and Roosevelt Roundtree.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving sons, Eugene Francis, Jr., Michael A. Francis, (Rhonda), and Charles E. Francis; her brother Herbert L. Wilson (Velma); numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, her beloved church family, and countless friends.
Her family and friends find comfort in knowing that she completed her journey with grace and purpose, and that she is now resting in the arms of her Savior.
