Obituary

Ola Mae McDaniel Hillmon was born in Dallas, Texas on November 24, 1927. She was the youngest child born to Lincoln and Clara (Dickson) McDaniel. She was baptized at an early age at Greater Shiloh Baptist Church in Dallas. Ola Mae, who was often referred to as "Pinkie", had two sisters and one brother who preceded her in death.

Pinkie attended N.W. Harlee Elementary School and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Dallas, Texas. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Huston-Tillotson University in 1949. During her college career, Pinkie met the man who would become her husband, George Hillmon, Jr.. Her graduate studies were conducted at the University of Corpus Christi, Texas A&I University Kingsville, and New York University. Pinkie earned a Masters Degree from Texas A&I University at Corpus Christi.

Pinkie taught Health and Physical Education at Solomon M. Coles Junior/Senior High School. She was also the sponsor of the school's cheerleaders and the drill team. Pinkie taught Physical Education at Ella Barnes Junior High School and 8th and 9th grade Math at Robert Driscoll Junior High School. After 33 years of teaching, Pinkie retired from Robert Driscoll Junior High School.

Mrs. Hillmon had community affiliations with the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority; Saratoga Seniors Bowling Club; Harbor Bridge Club; and the Ladies of the Camellia Social Club. Her decades long membership at Brooks Chapel AME Church included activities with the Women's Missionary Society, Steward Board Secretary, and the Sunday School. Pinkie was quite an accomplished Bridge Card Participant. She volunteered to teach numerous people how to play Bridge and often described her teaching methodology as learning the "language of card playing".

Pinkie Hillmon was 88 years old at the time of her death on July 8, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Hillmon, Jr., her son, George Hillmon III, and her great grandson, Ethan Aaron Hillmon. She leaves to mourn her sons, Reginald Hillmon and Thurston Hillmon (Liz) of Houston, Texas; one daughter, Bobbie Randle Simon (Phillip) of Houston, Texas; her grandchildren Sara Hillmon, Sam Hillmon, Tiffany Hillmon, Thurston Hillmon, Jr., Eugene Curtis, Jr. (Amy), and Candace Copeland (Brian); at least nine great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Eugene Curtis, Sr. and a host of life-long friends.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016 starting at 9:30 A.M. at Brooks Chapel AME Worship Center followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 A.M. Services to conclude that same day .
