Obituary

Mattie Mae Wagner, 91, was peacefully called home to be with our Lord on December 26, 2018.

Mattie, who was known as Meme to family, was born on April 28, 1927 in Gonzales, Texas to Wister and Ira Price who precede her in death. She was married to the love of her life, James M. Wagner and together they shared 55 years of marriage until his death in 2002.

Mattie was a graduate of Solomon M. Coles High School in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1944 and she attended Del Mar College.

As a long-term resident of Corpus Christi, Texas, she was employed as Church Secretary at St. John Baptist Church under the late Rev. Shelvin J. Hall and Rev. Harold T. Branch. Mattie worked and retired as a court clerk for Nueces County in 1993 after 23 years of dedicated service.

Very early in life, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. Mattie devoted her life to God and family. She was a faithful and lifelong member of St. John Baptist Church. She was a Deacon's wife and she supported and served in the Fellowship Choir, Sunday School, Training Union and Golden Leaves. Mattie served faithfully and attended worship services regularly until her health declined. She was also a lifelong member of the NAACP.

In her spare time, she enjoyed being a part of a bowling league as well as traveling with her beloved husband but she especially loved spending time with her family and friends.

Many people who met her were blessed by Mattie's character, grace and kindness. Her legacy and light will forever shine in the hearts of those who knew her. Mattie, a true angel on earth, will be deeply missed by all her family and friends.

Mattie is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Frances Blackshear, brothers, Sonny and JaHugh Price and grandson, Kelly Wagner.

Left behind to cherish her memories are her only child, Karl (Josie) Wagner Sr.; five grandsons, Stephen (Tina) Wagner, Keith Wagner, Karl (Tammy) Wagner Jr., Kristoffer Wagner and Kacy Wagner; two granddaughters, Kendra (Mark) Wagner Pearson and Karly Wagner; a special ex daughter-in-law, Carolyn Wagner; nieces Faye Oliver and Annette Vananburg; 21 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren as well as a host of other relatives and fond friends.
