Obituary

Mary E. Parker passed away on March 8, 2024, at the age of 81. She was born on August 15, 1942, to Anna Powell Hicks and Willie A. Hicks in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was the youngest of 5 siblings. She attended Solomon Coles in Corpus Christi. After leaving school in 1958, Mary moved to San Antonio, Texas, to spend time with her brother, Hogan Johnson, and her sister-in-law, Johnnie Raye Johnson.

Mary moved back to Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1980 where she met her lifelong partner, Benjamin Harold Fitts. She loved and enjoyed spending time with Benjamin Fitts. They did everything together. You would not see one without the other. Mary also enjoyed viewing fashion magazines and watching the daily news to keep up with current events. She looked forward to visits from her family, especially her nieces and nephews. She enjoyed bingo and a scratch-off or two. She loved fashion; she would dress up every day and put on her makeup, even if she had nowhere to go. She loved wearing accessories and matching from head to toe.

Mary will always be remembered for her laughter, love for her family, her sense of humor, and her fashion. She was a loving mother to her only son, Michael, whom she loved dearly. She loved spending time with her son and calling him several times a day just to hear his voice and ask him when she would see him again.

Mary was preceded in death by her lifelong partner of 32 years, Benjamin Harold Fitts; her mother, Anna Powell Hicks; her father, Willie A. Hicks; sisters: Ruth Johnson (Cadillac Ruth), Jewel Johnson; brothers: Hogan Johnson, Willie A. Hicks Jr.; nieces: Carolyn Hicks and Jacqueline Hicks; nephew, Sedrick Taylor.

She is survived by her son, Michael A. Parker (Tara); granddaughter, Ibriana Parker; sister-in-law, Janice Hicks; nieces: Sabrina Woods, Gwen Jackson, Karen Williams, Sandra Hicks (Larry), Shawna Lartigue, Dru'Emery Smith, Amiyah Nash, CaSandra Taylor, Sherlon Jackson; nephews: Avery Foster, Wayne Johnson, Willie Hicks Jr., Sterling Johnson, Wendell Johnson, Roshawn Nash (Daisee), Howard Sullivan, Waylen Nash, Jamal Turner, Ja'Von Turner, Darrell Taylor. She also leaves behind a host of great-nieces and nephews and cousins.

The interment will be at Rose Hill Memorial Park, 2731 Commanche St., Corpus Christi, TX 78408. The repast will be held at Greater Shiloh, C.O.G.I.C., 1901 Cliff Maus Drive.
