Obituary

Mary Jewel Kegler entered the world on September 22, 1957, the third daughter of Mary Clark and Joseph Smith. After a beautiful and impactful 68 years she was called home to be with the Lord on January 31, 2026 at 8:45 PM.

She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Kegler, her mother Mary Mozelle Clark and father Joseph Smith, her brother Ricky Green, and her beloved oldest sister Josilee Smith. She is survived by her two sisters, Dianne Brown (Phillip), and Margaret Clark, and brother Jessie Green (Kim), numerous nieces and nephews, and even more great nieces and nephews, all of whom held a very special place in her heart.

Mary is also survived by numerous cousins, very close friends of hers who felt like extended family, her COPD team and supporters, and her dear friends at the library who shared years of laughter and countless memories. Perhaps her most difficult goodbye will be to her beloved dogs whose care and comfort was of the utmost importance to her.

Mary Jewel took great pride in being a supportive alumni to her alma mater, Aransas Pass High School and was a lifelong Aransas Pass Panther fan.  After working for 20+ years for the Aransas Pass Taxi service, she began working at Aransas Child Care Center and eventually substituting for the Aransas Pass Public School system. Mary also dedicated several years to her volunteer work at the Ed & Hazel Richmond Public Library in Aransas Pass. Her work as a COPD Ambassador led her to spend several hours there organizing walks and bringing awareness, her commitment to this work was matched only by her devotion to the wonderful friends she met there whose friendship meant so much to her.

Mary loved watching and talking about wrestling, raising awareness about causes close to her, gathering with her family and friends, and sitting on her porch enjoying her life in Aransas Pass. Above all, her greatest love was caring for and spending time with her dogs. Her devotion to them was never ending and with no reservations.  She never met a puppy she didn't fall in love with. Known for her candid nature and the way she walked through life true to herself, she left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Her friends will forever share stories that capture her one-of-a-kind personality, and her absence will be felt profoundly.  She will be missed more than words can express.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 20th at 12 p.m. at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home, 2003 W.
