Obituary

Deacon Lloyd Gene Parker was born September 12 th , 1947, the second oldest child, to the late Paul Oliver Parker and Mary Yvonne (lovingly known as Sissye Mama) Parker in Robstown, TX. At an early age, Lloyd accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.

As a child, Lloyd attended Phyllis Wheatley School in Robstown, TX and graduated from Robstown High School. Growing up, Lloyd had a host of nicknames lovingly called by family and friends including Rook, George, Honey Buns (affectionally given by his wife, Ida), Gene and several others. Lloyd lived an active life and was heavily involved in several sports starting at the young age of 7 years old, particularly baseball where he played for Robstown High School. Lloyd went on to attend Texas A&I-Kingsville where he majored in Psychology. Lloyd led a dedicated and committed life of service to his family and the community. Lloyd proudly served as a Case Worker for Nueces County M.H.M.R where he worked with Community Action Programs with disadvantaged youth and dual-diagnosis clients throughout Nueces County. In addition, he was actively involved with consumers and their families and was well-respected by his peers and various agencies. He retired after over 35 years where he received numerous awards for his outstanding dedication and service to his profession.

Lloyd played a pivotal role at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church for several years and was ordained as a Deacon at Mt. Zion on September 23 rd , 1988. He had a vast amount of wisdom, discernment, and love for the Word of God. Lloyd proudly served several other roles in the church as Training Union teacher, Youth Director, Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School Assistant Director, and member of the Men's Choir.

Lloyd had a tremendous passion and God-given gift of interacting with people and could always find a way to connect with anyone he ever crossed paths with. His family was the core of his world. He had an endless amount of love for his family, his wife, Ida whom he had been married to for 41 years, his children and grandchildren who brought such abundant joy to his life.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Paul Oliver, and Mary Yvonne Parker and leaves to forever cherish in memory, his wife, Ida Alvarado-Parker of San Antonio, TX, his son Gabriel (Chloe) Parker of San Antonio, TX, and daughter Alexis (Canel) Parker Cole of Arlington, VA, his three grandchildren Nico Luke, Nyla Ari and Nori Elle Parker, his brother, Arvis Parker of Corpus Christi, TX and his sister Thelma Plenty of San Antonio, TX as well as a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Lloyd was loved by all and will forever be a great influence to his family, friends and community.
