Lavada Martin Osawaru, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2025, at the age of 78. She was born on July 12, 1946, in Timpson, Texas, to Oreatha Martin and Walker T. Martin. Lavada grew up alongside her siblings, Gloria Jean (Martin) Miller, Cecil Martin, and Linda (Martin) Hodge, forming strong family bonds that carried through her life.
In school, Lavada was in one of the first integrated classes in Corpus Christi, TX. Despite the many challenges she faced she remained steadfast in her determination to achieve her goals. She received her early education at Silmon Cole and later obtained her GED, exemplifying her resilience and commitment to personal growth.
Lavada dedicated her life to serving and uplifting others. She worked as a CNA for hospice care and at the State School in Corpus Christi, where her kindness and compassion made a lasting impact. Lavada relocated back to Gardena, California and was able to pursue her dream of helping children by founding and directing her own childcare business, which became a cornerstone of her like and a blessing to many families.
Lavada was a vibrant soul, known for her infectious energy, joyous laughter, and love for dancing and fellowship. She was such a ball of energy, she loved to laugh and loved everyone. She brought light into the lives of all who knew her, sharing love and kindness unconditionally. Lavada attended Corpus Christi Christian Fellowship, Pastor Don & Marva Leavell.
She is survived by her children: Fredrick Martin (Utah) and Regina Carter-Amey (Corpus Christi, Tx). She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jacqueline Carter-Mills (Inglewood, CA). Lavada's legacy lives on through her grandchildren: Cornelius Mills, Cornelia Mills-Pitchford, Erica Martin, Fredrick Martin, and Eric Martin.
Her great-grandchildren include Lyric Mills, Kennedi Pitchford, Kenneth Pitchford, Cherish Martin, and Skylar Martin. She was also blessed with great-great grandchildren Cairo Ashton White and CharlieRose Yvonne White, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loving relatives and friends.
