On March 4, 2016, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Johnnie Mae Jones went home to Glory to be with God. She was born on December 21, 1929 in El Campo, Texas to John and Jennie B. Barnes She attended Coles/Hialco. She became a nurse and worked at Memorial Medical Center for 17 years until retiring, where she received numerous awards for her work throughout her nursing career.
She first married in 1948 to Freddie Lee Wallace. She had 3 beautiful children. Johnnie raised her children alone, working three jobs before marrying Lorenza Jones in 1978. She was an established member of the community. She was an Eastern Star and a devoted member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she served in Sunday school and was head of the Usher board before her health failed.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Barnes, mother, Jennie B. Barnes, sisters, Dorthy Mae Rose Corzine and Gloria McChester, children, Danny Bruce Wallace and Darrel D. Wallace Edwards.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories, her husband, Lorenza Jones, sons, Freddie Lee Wallace Jr., and Darrell Eugene Wallace, 15 grandchildren, sister, Nina Lawson and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 11, 2016 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Interment to follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
