Her Legacy: A Life Well Lived
Juleria Annette Johnson-Edwards entered heaven on September 25, 2026. Born March 13, 1970, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to the late William and Shirley Johnson. A warm, joyful person, she graduated from Foy H. Moody High School in 1988 and earned a degree from Texas A&I University in Kingsville. Juleria taught in Corpus Christi Independent School District for 34 years and retired in May 2026 after making a lasting difference in the lives of many students, staff, and parents. Beyond the classroom, Juleria taught through cheerleading, track, praise dance, and community service.
Active in church and community, Juleria joined church and was baptized under the late Rev. Elliott Grant. At St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church, she served in the choir, Sunday school, and as Dynamic Drill Team Director. She proudly sponsored the precision Bible drill team that performed at church and Juneteenth events and won first place at the national Baptist level in Huntsville, Alabama. She later joined Bridge of Life Church and faithfully served until her health failed her through choir, women’s ministry, Bible study, and praise dance.
Juleria was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, Julia Faye Johnson Newhouse and Syleria Antionette Johnson. We find comfort in their reunion and peace in the memories she left behind.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin; sons Avion Johnson-Edwards of Corpus Christi and Amarion Johnson of Houston; nephew Damone (Kyomisha) Johnson and sons Kaden and Kwentin; niece De’Keisha Johnson of Houston; sisters Tanya Johnson and Justine Lemos of Atlanta; aunts Estelle Green of Austin, Margaret Evans, and Venasta Allen of Corpus Christi; uncle Lawrence Barnett; God-sister Mitzi Jones; Sisters-in-law Linda Dilliard and Delores Bushnell; brother-in-laws Lurie Lee Edwards, Terry Edwards and Ricky Edwards and many relatives and friends.
A proud 35-year Legacy member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Juleria served the Gamma Alpha Zeta Chapter as President, Vice President, Secretary, MIP (Membership Intake Process) Coordinator, and Historian. Initiated through the Phi Lambda Undergraduate Chapter at Texas A & I University–Kingsville on January 18, 1991, she later joined the Gamma Alpha Zeta Graduate Chapter. Her journey from Zeta Archonettes to undergraduate and graduate members remained a source of pride.
She was an honored member of the Ladies of Camellia Social Club, which lovingly guides young women through the meaningful tradition of becoming debutantes. The experience helps them grow in confidence, build lasting relationships, and step into the women they are destined to become. Having once been a debutante herself, Juleria treasured the opportunity to later serve in the club that had made her own journey so special.
Juleria was affectionately known as “J,” “JuJu,” Mrs. Johnson-Edwards, and Nana by family, students, and friends. She brought joy and love to others and her cherished family and friends as she left a lasting mark on all of us.
Juleria lived by her favorite scripture: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
