Bro. Hawthorne Amey, Jr., was a loving husband, devoted father, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather.
Bro. Amey was born December 10, 1930, in Pledger, Texas to Hawthorne Amey, Sr., and Ethel O'Neal Amey. He attended school First thru the Eighth grade at I. W. Williams Public School. He graduated from O. H. Herman High School in Van Vleck, Texas. He was baptized at Union Baptist Church in Pledger, Texas at an early age.
He served in the Korean War from June 1950 to July 1953. He was discharged from the Marines in 1955. He attended Del Mar College for Mechanics. Then changed his major to Radio and TV Technician and received an Associate Degree. Then he went to work for Spohn Hospital where he met Jewel Singleton in 1957, and two and a half months later they were united in Holy Matrimony on Saturday, April 27, 1957. Later he went to work for Wilcox Furniture Store for 17 and a half years. He was a TV and Radio Technician as well and a TV Repairman Technician for the Molina, Hillcrest neighborhoods and other out of town customers. His last job was with the Corpus Christi Independent School District as an Electrical Technician. He retired from CCISD.
Upon moving to Corpus Christi, Bro. Amey led his Family by uniting with Westhaven Baptist Church, The he was led to unite with Calvary First Baptist Church under the leadership of the late, Dr. H. C. Dilworth, Jr., and he remained an active member with presence and financial support under the leadership of Bishop C. E. Richardson, Sr. He supported the Ministry of the Brotherhood at Calvary.
Family members that preceded in death are his parents Hawthorne, Sr., and Ethel Amey, his sisters Leotia Gordon, Dorothy Thomas, Clarice Scott and Bertha Woodard.
