Gwenlyn Dunlap Nickerson was born on March 27, 1963 to Mae Kathrine Dunlap and Leon Caveness. Gwen attended Roy Miller High School in which she received her high school diploma in 1981. After graduating, Gwen lived in California for a short time. Upon returning to Corpus Christi, she was employed with the Corpus Christi Caller Times. She later work at Whataburger until her health declined. Gwen had a joy for gambling, she had a passion for fashion and mastered coordinating colors.

She loved her family and community. Everyone that came into her life, she would give the shirt off her back and more. Gwen had the purest heart everyone that knew her knew she would speak her mind and stood 10 toes down behind it. The love that she had for her grandkids was unmatched.
