Gloria Dominguez
Plemons
Dec 4, 1936 — Feb 12, 2022
Gloria Dominguez Plemons left this world on Saturday morning, February 12th, 2022 in Austin, Texas. She was 85 years, 2 months, and 8 days old at the time of her death. She lived in the Annaville area of Corpus Christi. Gloria was born on December 4, 1936 to Salvador and Estela Dominguez in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. She grew up across the border in Laredo and attended school there. She was forced to leave her education behind in order to enter the workforce as a means to support her family and siblings. She held two jobs during this time as a fast order cook and waitress at the famous Kress Department Store and at night working the beauty salon at the Leichtenstein Department store in Downtown Corpus Christi. Her devotion to family and self-sacrifice was an important part of who Gloria was as she constantly sacrificed her own needs for the sake of her family. She moved to Memphis for a short time and while there, met the family of Elvis Presley while working at a diner. She also spent time living in Florida and talked happily about the summers she spent picking cherries in Michigan. All of her hard work allowed the family to buy the house on Lolita Street that became the family home and a home away from home for her own children. She returned to Corpus Christi with Baby James in tow. She met and married John C. Plemons in November of 1966 while working as a cashier at his grocery store. This began a marriage that brought about three more children and a commitment that lasted until John's death in 1994. It was during this time that she raised her children and helped at the grocery store. She was a huge believer in family and spent as much time as possible at the Lolita house with the rest of the Dominguez clan and their children. Tragedy struck the family with the diagnoses of Alzheimer's Disease for her husband John in 1984. Gloria spent the next 10 years caring for her husband night and day. Never leaving his side and sacrificing her happiness for the care of a man that was slowly losing his memories. Times were very hard financially, but she always found a way to make things work and always provided for her family. After John's passing she moved to the Austin area and lived in a humble house in Lockhart, Texas for 10 years. She decided to return to Corpus Christi in 2008 and lived there until her passing. Gloria's passions were gardening as she was blessed with a green thumb and sewing as she was always creating some new outfit from a pattern she saw. And of course watching her Novelas. Gloria is survived by three sons, James, John Scott, and Jerry (Sonia) Plemons and one daughter, Celeste (Jorge) Felix. She also leaves behind six grandchildren. Jacquelyn (Martin) Ramirez, Andrew Casarez, Adam Felix, Samantha Felix, William Plemons, and James Plemons. Three greatgrandchildren Parker and Benson Casarez, and Thiago Ramirez. Sisters Yolanda Garza, Lydia (Joe) Terracciano, Connie Castillo, Maria (Albert) Garcia, and Chris Escarzaga. Numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John C. Plemons, parents Salvador and Estela Dominguez, sister Janie Sharp, brother Manuel Dominguez, and sister Irma D. Ochoa. Viewing to be held from 9:00AM to 11:00AM on February 26th, 2022 at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home located at 5026 Old Brownsville Road followed by Rosary and Catholic Mass at 12:30PM at St. Theresa of the Little Flower Church located at 1302 Lantana St. in Corpus Christi.
