Obituary

Ernestine Lavin Tasby went home to be with the lord on April 14, 2024, surrounded by her family and friends. She was born on July 27, 1950, to the late Ernest Tasby and Louiza Dawson Tasby. Ernestine was a beacon of light to all who knew her. She was a living example of the scriptures and its teachings. Showing us that through love kindness, compassion, and devotion we can make a profound impact on the world around us. Her unwavering faith in the Lord was the cornerstone of her life.

At an early age, she accepted Christ into her heart and was baptized at Rising Star Baptist Church. She later became a member of West Haven Baptist Church for 30- plus years under the leadership of the late Rev. Clarence Jones. At the time of death, she was a member of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev Claude C. Axel for 5 years. As a faithful member of West Haven Baptist Church, she diligently served mission, drove the church van, created programs, was on the ushering board, and attended church service, both in the walls of West Haven and throughout the city. Her commitment to her beliefs and profound love for God were unwavering.

Ernestine attended George Washington Carver and South Gate Elementary. She attended North Side Jr High. She was a proud graduate of Roy Miller High School. She attended Del Mar College. She worked as a System Support Specialist for MHMR for 45 years.

Ernestine is preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Louiza Tasby; her brothers Ernest Melvin And Walter Tasby; and her sisters, Louzia Tasby Bolder, Massline Tasby Reed, Cedell Tasby Scott, Crystal Dawson Clay, Cathy (Houston) Tasby, and Letha Eugene Tasby.

Ernestine's life and legacy continue to live on through her children and grandchildren: daughter Roberta Tasby and son Eric (Kristina) Tasby. Siblings: Gene (Louise) Tasby of Dallas, Texas, Josie Tasby Holt, Ernest (Jenell) Tasby Jr., Linda L. Tasby all of Corpus Christi, Texas. Treasured grandchildren Stephanie (Johnny) Lenis of San Antonio, Xsaiver Tasby of Daytona Beach Florida, Mythany, Emagine, and Kal-El Tasby all of Corpus Christi, Texas. Three great grandchildren Kaylee Lewis, Joey, and Adeline Lenis. A host of nieces and Nephews. Special friends Shirley Lott Rhodes, Ollie Walker, Ludy Salinas, Minnie Hinojosa and Lisa Molina.

May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may her memory continue to inspire us to live with faith, compassion, and love.
