Elmo Dennis Avery's Obituary
Mr. Elmo Avery departed this life and entered into the Kingdom of Heaven on Saturday, June 3, 2017. He was born on August 13, 1932 to Leon Avery and Maude Estelle Avery in Refugio, Texas.
Elmo graduated from Barefield High school in Refugio, Texas as Valedictorian. He played several sports and was an avid sportsman. He was united in Holy matrimony to Barbara Joan Bess Avery in 1956, and was married for 61 years, and to this union 4 children were born.
He was a faithful member of St. John Baptist Church until his health failed him. He served in the Army branch of the military and upon his return, he worked at the Mustang Club and Coastal State Refinery for 30 years. He was not a man who could sit still, therefore while retired, he drove for the railroad for six years. Elmo was the matriarch of the family and enjoyed being around his loved ones.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew him and his legacy will live on through them. He is preceded in death by his father Leon Avery, his mother, Maude Estelle Langley, his brother Tom Avery and sister Beulah Bonner.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his loving wife, Barbara Avery, sons Wendell Leon Avery and Terry Lynn Avery, and daughters, Denise Michelle Avery-Ceasar, and Paula Rene Avery. 9 grandchildren,3 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and numerous other friends whose lives he touched.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 8, from 6-7 P.M. at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. at St. John Baptist Church 5445 Greenwood Dr. Corpus Christi, Texas.
Entombment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
