Apr 17, 1930 — Jan 4, 2026
Mrs. Dorothy Mae Pleasant was born on April 17, 1930, in Corpus Christi, TX. Her father Clarence Haskins and mother Josie Mae Johnson proceed her in death. She was the only child born to this union. Her father later married Eunice Bland and Dorothy inherited two stepsisters Lilian and Helen. During her childhood, she attended Solomon Coles Public All Grades School where she participated in the band. During her teen years, she met and then married Charlie Pleasant, Sr. They were married on November 10, 1950. To this union 5 children were born. Dorothy's husband Charlie Sr., her stepmother Eunice Haskins and her stepsister Lilian Coleman proceed her in death.
Early in life, Dorothy gave her life to Christ under the pastoral ministry of the Reverend Henry C. Dilworth as well as Reverend C. E. Richardson at Calvary First Baptist Church. She was a devoted member of the Naomi Mission Circle and the Nurse's Aide Corps of Calvary First Baptist Church.
Dorothy served for more than 20 years working for the City of Corpus Christi specializing in the Welfare Division, City Planning and Economic Outreach-Human Resources Division for various community projects throughout her corporate career. Dorothy made the decision to change career paths and began working within the education system. She chose to devote her career to working with children who had special needs. She started in the Corpus Christi Independent School District and finished her teaching career with the Fort Bend Independent School District until she retired in 1995.
In later years Dorothy moved to Houston, TX to be near her children. Upon her arrival she united with the Southwest Community Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverend Greg Patrick and then served as a faithful member of Kainos Community Church under the pastorate of Reverend Joe and Yolande Palmore. She was also a volunteer for many years with the Inner Change Freedom Initiative for Prison Fellowship and reform.
Dorothy leaves to mourn her passing; her stepsister Helen Smith, all 5 children, Charlie Jr., Norris, Jackie, Patrick and Mary Helen. 6 grandchildren; Charlotte, Ashley, Ashton, Camelle, Cherilee and John-Andrew. 5 great-grandchildren; Kaleb, Kennedy, Jaiylah, Khrystian and Will. 6 Bonus children; Cherry Ann - wife of Norris, Keith - husband of Charlotte; Terry Johnson and Benjamin Foster - her Bonus Sons and Brenda Young - her Bonus Daughter, and a host of family and friends.
From The Pleasant Family, thank you, Cleophis (the 3rd Bonus Son "Clip"), for the love, kindness and unwavering love you've given not only to "Mom" but to all of us. We are so grateful and truly blessed to have you.
The Pleasant family would like to thank the employees of Enhabit Home Health & Hospice of Houston for the exceptional care provided to our dear Dorothy Mae during her last days.
