Cynthia W.
Stoney
Nov 27, 1954 — Feb 25, 2024
Cynthia Washington Stoney (Sister Girl) went home to rest on Sunday, February 25, 2024. She was born in Corpus Christi, Nueces County, Texas to Mr. Seth Washington, Jr., and Mrs. Marjorie L. Washington on Saturday, November 27, 1954. She accepted Christ at an early age, joining Calvary First Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. H. C. Dilworth, Jr., and continued her faithful service to God under the current leadership of Bishop C. E. Richardson, Sr., by singing in the choir, serving with the Minister and Deacon Wives, participating in Calvary's Scholarship Committee and various other factions in the Church.
Cynthia, whom her family sometimes lovingly referred to as 'Sister Girl' was a very kindhearted, soft-spoken person, always willing to help in any way she could. She loved her family dearly, always making sure to visit her family members' homes as often as possible.
Cynthia graduated from West Oso High School (Class of "73) with the aspirations to attend college. She acted upon those goals by attending Del Mar College then Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas, where she procured her degree in education. She worked briefly as a teacher, and at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company before going to work for Corpus Christi Naval Air Station, where she retired after 35 years of service. After her retirement she worked part-time as a substitute teacher. Cynthia loved children and seemed to have left an impact on several of her students.
Cynthia pledged in the spring of 1976 with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, where she is a Silver Star Soror of 25 years plus. She served in many capacities in this organization, including President, Vice President, Graduate Advisor for Sigma Beta Eta Phi membership, co-chairman of the Sunday Worship Service at regional conventions, constitution committee and Founders Day Chairmen.
She was united in marriage to Kenneth Stoney in 1984. Together they raised two sons, Seth and Marcus Stoney.
She was preceded in death by her father Seth Washington, Jr., her grandparents Ida Washington, Seth Washington, Sr., Patricia Smith, Ireland Smith, her sister Barbara Tilley and great grandmother Winnie Andrews. She leaves to cherish her sons Seth and Marcus Stoney, LaVokea Wallace; her mother Marjorie L. Washington; her sister Rosalind Robinson; five brothers Charles, James, Brian, Norris and William Washington, as well as, a plethora of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, extended family and friends.
