Obituary


Clifton Lee Woodson was a loving husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who transitioned from this life into Glory on Sunday, March 29,2015. He was born on January 1,1926 in Shiner, Texas to the late Robert L. Woodson and Lucinda Lampkin Woodson. Clifton was the second of two chidren born to this union.

His family relocated to Corpus Christi, Texas when he was a young boy. Clifton graduated from Solomon Coles High School on May 26, 1944. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1957. In 1959, Clifton was employed as a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service. During his employment with the United States Postal Service, he served as a Union Steward. Clifton completed over years of service with the United States Postal Service, retiring on September 3, 1989.
After his retirement, Clifton focused his time and energy on his place of business "Woody's Night Life Lounge" for over 30 years. His customers referred to him as "Mr. Woody". He truly enjoyed meeting and talking to the customers who came into his place of business. On November 29, 2007, The Corpus Christi Black Chamber of Commerce presented Clifton with the " Outstanding Business Owner Award".
Clifton loved to play golf. He was a member of the Gulf Coast Golf Association during the 1970's and 1980's. He was a faithful member of Brooks A.M.E. Worship for over 15 years.
Clifton is preceded in death by his parents, Robert L. and Lucinda Lampkin Woodson; his sister and brother-in-law, Wanda Faye and Warner Lewis; step-daughter Gladys Smith; nephews, Clifton Brown, Robert L. Woodson, and Robert Woodson, Jr., and granddaughter, Robin Green.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife Dorothy M. Woodson of Corpus Christi, Texas; step-daughter Olga Rodgers of Waco, Texas; two very special nieces; J. Denise and Taylor S. Woodson; special nephew, Clifton L. Woodson; special friends, Keith and Tonya Whitehead; five grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, special 1st cousins, and friends.
The family will receive friends at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, April 3, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A celebration of Clifton Lee Woodson's life will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Calvary First Baptist Church, 2906 Carver Dr.Interment to follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
