Obituary

Carrie Ellen Hoodye Wilkerson went home to be with our heavenly father on July 6, 2021. She was born July 7, 1949, to the late Allen James Hoodye Sr. and Arnettie Hoodye Smith. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Allen James Hoodye Jr. and grandson Nathan Imeere Williams.

Carrie accepted the Lord at an early age and was baptized at St. Paul AME church. She grew up in the New Edition neighborhood, attended Carver Elementary, Cunningham Middle School, and graduated from Roy H. Miller in 1967 (Once a Buc, A lways a Buc). Upon graduation, she married, moved to San Antonio, TX , and started raising her daughters.

Carrie was a wise, generous and loving person who never met a stranger she did not invite to her home for a meal and a place to stay . Carrie is the proud mother of four daughters who she raised on her own. Carrie wor k ed for the Corpus Christi Transit Authority driving the city bus for many years. She encouraged her sisters to drive buses too and was immensely proud to have them join her. Carrie also worked as a cabinet builder, substitute teacher, and CNA for over 20 years. One of her proudest honors was being named CNA of the year. She was a faithful member of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church.

Carrie leaves to cherish her memories f our daughters, Sheryl , Shalane , and Shanett Williams of Corpus Christi, TX and Jovonne (Quinton) Foster of Huntsville AL , 17 g randchildren , 15 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Sylvia Louise Smith, Nettie (Eugene) Hoodye Scott , and a host of relatives and friends.
