Bernice Jackson Greenwood, lovingly known as "Mama Tiny" was the first of seven children born to Clarence W. and Bernice Mays Jackson in Robstown, Texas. Her parent's one brother, Carroll and three sisters, Betty Lou, Lila Lee and Tommye preceded her in death. She was married to Woodrow Greenwood Sr. who also preceded her in death.
At an early age Bernice professed a hope in Christ and was baptized at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, the church in which her grandparents were founding members. Bernice was a faithful member of the Women's Missionary Society, Senior Choir and served as Sunday School Teacher and Principal of Vacation Bible School. She began her early education at Phyllis Wheatley Elementary School and graduated from Austin Anderson High School in Austin, Texas. She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Home economics from Texas A&I University and a Master of Science Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Texas A&I University. Bernice retired in 1986 after completing over 30 years of service at Rice Consolidated Independent School District, and Corpus Christi Independent School District. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
She leaves to cherish her legacy one son, Woodrow (Lorraine) Greenwood Jr., Two siblings, Clarence (Carlene) Jackson Jr., Barbara (Willie David) Finley. Grandchildren: Brandon, Brian, Karen, Michael, Mark, Kevin, and Rodney. God son, Trenten Paul Tipton, her closest living cousin and best friend, Pauline Tipton.
Visitation will be held on Friday April 22, from 6-8 p.m. at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home 5026 Old Brownsville Rd. Corpus Christi, Texas. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday April 23, 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. 730 E. Ave. F Robstown, Texas 78380. Interment will be Monday April 25, 11:00 a.m. at Robstown Memorial Park Cemetery.
