Belinda
Axel
Sep 21, 1949 — Jan 30, 2024
Belinda Robinson Axel went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 30, 2024. She was born on September 21,1949 in Jackson, Mississippi to James Davis and Electa R. Hampton and accepted the Lord at an early age.
Belinda graduated from Brinkley High School in 1967 and later moved to California where she married her husband of 50 years Pastor Claude C. Axel. They later relocated to Corpus Christi, Texas where she retired as a Service Representative from Southwestern Bell in 2004.
Belinda was the epitome of the Proverbs 31 woman, and had a smile that would light up any room. She was affectionately known as Memere by her grandchildren whom she loved dearly.
Belinda loved the Lord. She also loved spending time with family, friends, and representing her hometown Jackson, Mississippi. Her hobbies included reading, shopping, and talking about black history. She also loved sharing about the time she was able to march with Martin Luther King Jr. when she was in high school.
Belinda also had a great sense of humor and was an excellent cook. She still got on her knees to pray up until the time she transitioned to be with the Lord. Her favorite saying was, "Oh Lord, you know I have no friend like you."
Not only was Belinda the first lady of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, she was also active with the Mission Ministry and Vacation Bible School.
Belinda is preceded in death by her mother Electa R. Hampton, her father, James Davis, stepfather, Al Hampton, grandmother, Corine Bailey, sister, Johnnie D. Young, daughter, Regina Axel, and grandson, Tyson Curtis-Lee Arriola.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Pastor Claude C. Axel; four children Chandra (Candi) Bryant, Tony Bryant (Kara), Tammy Gonzalez, and Paul Axel (Cara); one brother, Daniel Hampton (Camille); seven grandchildren, Justin Bryant, Trevor Bryant, Jordan Bryant, Amiyah Auzenne-Axel, Jada Gonzales, Bryce Axel and Nevaeh Gonzales, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Thank you dad for taking such great care of our mom and your beloved wife, Belinda "Red" Axel, a.k.a. Ms. Toonch.
